Blogging is all about openness, spreading and sharing. Most likely you want as many eyeballs on you blog as possible and blogging software, naturally, optimized for doing just that. But what if you want to keep things private? May be you keep your personal diary online because you want to have access to it from anywhere or you want members only blog for friends or family? Yes this is true that you might look for alternative first and get specialized software, but if you already feel comfortable with BlogEngine, well, you know that story about hammer and nail, right? Whatever your reasons are, no blogs are good in privatizing out of the box, and BE is not an exception. You’ll have to tighten some screws and make few adjustments here and there to force it to respect your privacy. Fortunately, as usual with BE, it’s straight forward architecture and excellent extensibility makes this task not very hard.

My personal need is to have a family blog, nothing especially secret but still I don’t really want pictures of my kids and such in public domain. I checked BE forum and found few folks interested in the subject and some general tips, but no good guide on privatizing BE. This is why I’m putting together this page where I’ll share my experience in the field, may be someone else will find it useful.

You always welcome to leave your comments, suggestions and tips – if it fit in, I’ll update my little guide accordingly.
